Action on climate change surges ahead

Premier Ed StelmachA message from Premier Ed Stelmach

Our province has taken a major stride forward to tackle the greenhouse gas emissions challenge on behalf of Albertans and all Canadians.  We have invested in two initiatives that will reduce emissions equal to taking more than a million cars per year off the road, or one-third of all the vehicles registered in Alberta.

A $2-billion fund will advance carbon capture and storage projects while a second $2-billion fund will propel energy-saving public transit in Alberta. This investment is unprecedented and demonstrates real action towards real results to battle climate change.

Diversifying Alberta's economy through technology

Technology to market announcementThe Alberta government recently announced the new action plan Bringing Technology to Market. Put simply, the goal of this $178-million plan is to increase the number of companies in advanced technology sectors and thereby diversify our economy.

Premier Ed Stelmach joined Minister of Advanced Education and Technology Doug Horner to announce the action plan to an audience of several hundred people. Among them were leading business people, advanced learning leaders, key stakeholders, and members of other ministries that will contribute to or benefit from the plan.
