A look back at the first year
A message from Premier Ed Stelmach
As the holiday season nears, I wish all Albertans a very Merry Christmas and a happy and properous New Year. It is a time to spend with family and friends, and to celebrate our many blessings together. This time of year also often calls for reflection. And it certainly was an eventful 2007 - for me personally as my first year as Premier and for the Government of Alberta as a whole.
On December 15, 2006, I gave each member of Cabinet a letter outlining his or her 'to do' list. These mandate letters were a move toward more open and accountable government - one of the things I promised Albertans. They were also a contract between our government and the people we serve.
With a full year behind us, it's time to report back to Albertans on how we did. To read about our progress, visit www.alberta.ca.

Tax credit benefits Albertans and charities
Albertans recognize the importance of charitable giving and are known as some of the most generous people around. It is in this spirit that the Alberta government has introduced an enhanced charitable tax credit. This increased tax credit recognizes the good work of charitable groups, and benefits charities and Albertans in a real and tangible way.

Natural gas rebate triggered for December
Albertans can expect to see a rebate of $1.50 per gigajoule (GJ) on their December natural gas bills, as temperatures have dropped and driven natural gas prices upwards. The Natural Gas Rebate Program will save the average Alberta household around $33 on their December natural gas bill.
