Province to capture feedback on royalty recommendations
A message from Premier Ed Stelmach
On September 18, I received the report and recommendations from the task force asked to review Alberta’s royalty structure. The decision on this report will affect Alberta and our energy sector for decades to come.
While the formal consultation is over, I am committed to keep listening. To capture all the feedback on the royalty review recommendations, the Alberta government has set up a special webpage for Albertans to send in their comments.
Albertans can read the complete report and recommendations and share their views at www.alberta.ca or by calling 427-0265. Outside the Edmonton calling area, Albertans can dial toll-free 310-0000, followed by 780-427-0265.
I look forward to your thoughts on this important issue.

A simple guide to electricity prices
Fall is here and as winter approaches, Albertans and other Canadians may pay more for electricity. Why? The short answer is that there’s an increase in demand during the winter.
Typically, we use more electricity in winter to keep the lights on longer as the days get shorter and we use more electricity when we turn up the heat to stay warm. This causes both demand and price to increase. But that is not the only reason why.
There is a growing demand for electricity in Alberta because our population is booming and there are more people and businesses needing electricity. When the supply is unable to grow as fast as demand, prices will increase.

Alberta’s wind power unleashed
Alberta’s wind producers received a major boost from the provincial government with the removal of the 900 megawatt (MW) threshold on wind power generation.
The Alberta government supports the development of renewable and alternative energy sources. Through this action, Alberta will continue to lead the nation in clean, sustainable wind-generated electricity.
