Alberta and Saskatchewan building New West

A message from Premier Ed Stelmach

Saskatchewan and Alberta have a lot in common. We share values of innovation, responsibility, hard work, community and family. We both have robust energy sectors and a strong commitment to environmental responsibility. Both provinces understand that working together will benefit our respective citizens and all Canadians.

Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall and I recently signed a protocol committing our provinces to work together on better services for citizens, building more competitive economies and delivering greater efficiency and value.

Sheriffs help make communities safer

sheriff

Albertans have a new tool to make their communities safer. Fourteen sheriffs have been assigned to investigate public complaints about houses and businesses used for illegal activities like selling drugs or prostitution. Properties can be shut down for up to 90 days.

The special unit was created when The Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) Act came into force October 1.

If you suspect illegal activities within a property phone 1-866-960-SCAN or file an online complaint at www.scan.alberta.ca, where there is more information about the initiative.

Simple Act takes root

As part of his committment to the environment, Premier Stelmach planted a tree on the legislature grounds. An average tree absorbs 200 kg of carbon dioxide over 80 years. Trees also help conserve soil and water, provide shelter and protect wildlife.
